Switch To Cone Air Filter

I have a 95 200sx SE-R, and I want to switch to a standard cone filter kit. The Kits I've seen online all seem to have the necessary hoses etc, however on my car I have what looks like 2 wires going into my current (stock) air filter housing (hot air temp sensor?). In all the aftermarket filters I've seen there will be no where for these 2 wires to go. Can I just snip em off, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Also what is the "real" gain from doin this mod?
