Im Trying to find out if ther is any difference between the 62 ecu from a red top and an E5 ECu from a black top sr20det.

Yep, they are different. Dont forget the blacktop, if from a Silvia S14 has VVTi, and the other blacktop from typeX 180 dont have VVTi. S14, has a hump on the cam cover toward the back of the engine, not flat like the 180.
Oh and the red top dont have VVTi either.

but are black top s13 and red top s 13 ecu's interchangeable?

i dont think so. black top S13, are a later model, i think 94-95 onwards.
Even S14 Zenki and Kouki SR20s are different ECU's

you can use them but the plugs are wired slightly different

vvti is a toyota term but thats interesting. so the black top doesnt have any variable valve timing?

s13 blacktop doesnt. s14 and s15 black tops do. Its variable intake cam timing.

how bout this one. I have a Red top s13 sr20det. the guys where i bought the front clip from gave me a 63 ecu from an automatic sr20det red top. can this cause any problems in my 5 speed sr20det. or are there advantages?.

The only difference in the ECU's are the rev limiters. The manual ECU has a rev limiter whereas the Auto doesn't becuase the auto tranny shifts on hydraulic pressure. Just be careful not to over-rev your engine.

other than that, no advantages, nor disadvantages.

Type x 180sx uses an s13 engine. S14 and S15 have the VCT.
Nissan could have saved a lot of confusion by using a different paint colour!
