I did the search...all I found was a bunch of people yelling about how the gti-r sr20det is AWD and that the intake and ignition system are in wrong spots for a 240 and since it's awd drive you can't slap it in...to that I say "DUH". But here is my question,
I KNOW the gti-r motor has an AWD tranny, what I want to know is simply this...and ONLY this, the question NO ONE has yet really answered straight forward for certain...
can you or can you not take the SR20DET GTi-R, take off the awd tranny, and bolt on the RWD tranny from RWD SR20DET models? If not do you need a different bell housing? If not, is the block just designed differently from the RWD sr20's? I know that on my FWD cars the block is designed in a way that putting on a RWD tranny is almost impossible.
I know guys that take blocks from RWD cars, get a different bell housing made, and use whatever the hell tranny and block combo they want...well not ANY but you get my point. That isn't that expensive, buddy of mine with an 84 supra is doing this to put a Toyota v8 in there but to be used with a 4th gen supra 6 speed tranny (yota doesn't make a manual tranny for the v8's, he wants a 6 speed v8

).
Now on say...my Honda Accord (no racer, my get around town baby), well at least from what I've seen, looks like it would be so hella imposible and hard (repetition rules) to put on a rwd tranny because the block itself is set up strictly for FWD...course I haven't looked that much into converting fwd blocks to rwd tranny's until now really, nor have I looked to see if the blocks are all that different...I assume they are.
*EDIT* whoops...typed horozontaly opposed instead of transverse mounted...realized this during class...edited ASAP *end edit*
So is the AWD SR20DET GTi-R's block designed so that you can't attach on a RWD tranny from a RWD SR20DET? If you can, then I could prolly use any nissan tranny I want...well to an extent, but I'll worry about that later as that's a different question all together. I don't care about the ignition system and the firewall or the intake or exhaust...those are problems that I can over come...but if the block can't have a rwd tranny put on, that's an unovercomeable (sp?...is that even a word??) problem.
That's my question folks...thanks for the help.
so why do I want the SR20DET GTi-R
simple...it is better than the SR20DET, that's what all my research shows.
