Query - Conversion

I have the chance of buying a 1989 Nissan 180sx ca18det auto (under 60000kms) for a steal which i am considering on converting into a sr20det manual.
Now, i've been searching fairly hard on google trying to find a 180sx ca18det to sr20det conversion article with mixed results.

The majority of conversions i found were 240sx to sr20det conversions. I'm not too familiar with the 240sx, i don't think there are any here in Australia. From what i gather a 2.4lt "CA-KA" version engine drives the 240sx.

Are swapping the CA18det and KA24?? engines to sr20det basically the same procedure and does the sr20 transmission bolt straight in to where the ca18det auto box sat?

I have read a brief article on converting a 180sx to manual which appear fairly straight forward.

If anyone can help me out with a link or some advice on this project please reply.

Much appreciated....

If I were you (which obviously I'm not, especially since you live in Australia), I would keep the CA18DET and do an auto-to-manual conversion. Save the money you'd have spent on the SR20DET and use it to upgrade your CA18DET.

First of all, if you were set on a motor swap I'd try to get a full front clip. There are lots of neat parts in there that could make things much easier on you. If you take pics of the motor and placement of hoses and pipes you can use those for reference as well.

On the other hand, you CA18 has some good power potential and for what you'd spend on an SR swap, you could have a smokin' CA.

Yeah i know the CA18Det could be built for some good horses (not interested though), i could recoup some of the loss by selling the ca18det. I'm sure as these motors are getting a little harder to find they should get me a third of what i'm purchasing the front clip sr20det for....

I can get a black top sr20 front clip undressed for $3250aud ($2300US) at the same place they are selling a ca18det engine only for $1600. if i recoup half that im happy.

Sounds like you're leaning heavily toward the SR then...

Well i'm know leaning towards just a manual conversion (not that i chickened out on sr20fying it). Any good links or explanations on what's needed etc would be handy.

Regards
