I just recently bought a 1996 240sx and a redtop SR20DET and I'm in a little need of help finding some parts particularly the timing belt. Anyone know of any OEM distributors for the SR20DET?

Hehe...if it has a timing "belt," then it's not a redtop!

I bought a timing chain kit from a later-model SR20DE that included the following:
timing chain
both chain guides and bolts
tensioner and bolts
tensioner gasket
This was around $220.00. The original "kit" included a front cover and oil pump assembly, but I already purchased a new OEM one from Enjuku.

The tensioner I have is a superior design to the previous ones. IIRC, the current "best" design is shared by the S15...

whoa,

It didn't even occur to me that the sr20det needed a timing chain as opposed to the timing belt. Maybe this is why I couldn't find one online. The motor I bought was indeed a sr20det redtop. Thanks for the info, I will certainly look into this. Any suggestions of any vendors who would have this part in stock!!!

I got another question...can I use the e5 ecu from a s13 sr20det blacktop instead of the #62 ecu for a redtop.

its not a straight swap. You need to rewire the ecu plug (which is a bitch)
