Where to SR20DET Swap in Texas / also emissions ?

Ok, just FYI - did a search, couldn't find anything (not saying it's not there, but couldn't find anything).

Got a 91 240SX. The KA just died permanently. Looking to get a SR20 swap. I've found a few engines, but I need to know if anyone knows anybody in the Dallas, TX area that can do the labor part of the swap (especially, if I supply the engine). If not Dallas, I'd be willing to drive as far as Houston, Austin or San Antonio as well.

Next question - does anyone know if the SR20 will be a problem with getting inspected in Texas ? I know for the most part, the laws are pretty lax here.

Just an offhand question while I'm here. I've had someone tell me that you can easily put the S14 SR20 engine/clip stuff into the S13 and you get more HP with that engine. Is that true ?

Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can give me a hand with this info. Feel free to email me at lew@coilback.com as well.

s13 vs s14 SR

- s14 has t28 turbo which is bigger than s13's t25 turbo. if you're lucky, you might get a ball bearing t28 which is anohter plus
- s14 has vvt (variable valve timing), s13 does not.

there are more difference between the 2 such as which head flows better, obd, etc etc but the main difference between the 2 are the turbos. s13 would put out about 205hp and s14 would put out about 220hp

s13 redtop, s13 blacktop, s14, s15 (s15 not recommended) SR engines will fit into any s-chassis

Thanks - that's good info to know. It's just the stupid emissions thing that has got me worried. I'm almost tempted to say screw it and rebuild the KA and throw a turbo kit on it so I'll be closer to street legal. Problem is - I still gotta find someone who can put that in (I have no tools, anywhere to work and I'm a mechanical moron).

Emissions shouldn't be a problem at all, 99% of the inspection places in texas don't care about emissions at all.

I plan on going to this place in austin that does SR swaps, and they don't care if you supply the motor or not, but they have a pretty nice kit setup; anyway, it's called Pro Tech, kind of in the central austin area.

If you want more info on that place, feel free to pm me, but i'm sure there are a few places in the dallas area that can help you.

Well all the places I usually get inspections at down here do the sniff test. I've talked to a couple of guys that my friends know that have swaps. They've had problems with the emissions thing as well.

if it comes down to it, you might have to spend a little more to "bribe" the inspector to pass it...

i've never seen an inspection place in austin do the sniff test, but i've heard of it in houston... so i don't know...

Nah, I doubt that would work here in Dallas. They are all real "by the book" guys here. I hate this place.

Problem is I don't live in Dallas county (yet). I'll be there in another week or two. Where is this said place ? All the places I have will pretty much kick you out (near McKinney) if you try it. They are a bit snooty. They don't like us "racer boy" types - they are used to the SUV soccer moms.
