what is the offical top speed of a red top sr20det? i have a red top sr in my 91 240sx. i tried to push my car to its top speed. since i am using USDM's gauge, the top speed shown is 110mph only. i can pass 110 and all the way down to the bottom, until the needle can't go more further. and my the fuel was cut. is there a speed limit in the JDM ecu? how can i remove the limit and can i put a external gauge to show the speed when i pass 110mph?
JDM has a speed limiter of 180km or 109mph
Use after-market engine management and speedometer
Real top speed : ?
My gauges show 115 and you drive a 240
there is i have the 180sx and once i hit 110 or so the fuels cuts off. i found that one out when i was racing a 350z on the freeway lol. i was quicker than the 350 but top speed he beat me
Even easier, figure out your redline/revlimiter and check your speedo when your at half that. Double the speedo number and that's your gear limited top speed (assuming you have the power to reach that number). For example, 8000 rpm redline and 4000 rpm = 80mph, you'd have a 160mph gear limited top speed. Here's hoping you don't kill anybody if your driving like that on public streets.
what is the offical top speed of a red top sr20det?
well, it depends on the redline, the gearing, and the wind resistance...
But let me tell you about this one time, at band camp, I was driving thru the giant treeless wilderness of South Australia in my S15 (with the blacktop SR20DET) and I was casually creeping the speed up without the missus noticing. I was in 6th doing 220km/h (137mph) when the handbrake went on (ie the missus noticed....)
220 would be the redline in 5th, and I don't know what the theoretical redline speed for 6th would be, but it was still willing at 220 in 6th so for sure it would have put on maybe another 10km/h i reckon.
Even better, the car felt fantasticly grounded at that speed and I had no worries at all for maintaining it, although I don't know what might have happened if Skippy the Bush Kangaroo decided to cross the road in front of me. Actually I do - the 'roo would have been vaporised and I'd be driving at light speed in that great race track in the sky.
