MAF sensor problem?

So I've got my red-top all installed in my car ('93 240sx) and it runs - sounds good too, but when I hook up the MAF sensor, it cuts out. The MAF I'm using is my stock KA24DE sensor from my old engine. Does the MAF need to be re-wired?. From what I understand the KA24 MAF should be fine unless I push it beyond 300hp or so. Do I need to get another MAF or am I missing something?

Thumbs up

I got a red-top sr20det engine, but it didn't come with the MAF. So you think getting an sr MAF would be the best? I see a lot of people put the z32 MAFs on their cars, but I can't find anything about how to rewire one of those. Also somebody said something about ECU re-mapping? if you're going to use the stock sr ECU with the z32 MAF. You're probably right, go with the sr MAF...

well I'm already above that I think. So what's the next best choice - a 90-6 z32 maf?

i think the reason why so many ppl use z32 mafs is because they can handle lots of power, aren't as hard to find (as sr mafs), and have lots of aftermarket support.

i would recommend the z32 maf but i do not know anything about how to rewire those or whether or not you would have to map the ecu.. i'll try to find out for you

Thanks, I'd appreciate that. I think I've found some good wiring info, but i'm not sure about re-mapping either.

i haven't found any info on the wiring but i have found that you do have to remap the ecu. a shop familiar with nissan tuning should do it without any problem (preferably one familiar with sr20's)

Save yourself some money. Buy a stock SR MAF.

The Z32 upgrade will cost you atleast $600.00

The Z32 MAF is atleast $100, and a JWT ECU upgrade is atleast another $500.00.

Not worth it unless your READY to produce over 300hp.

yeah, that's what I've done. I plan to be over 300hp next year with a couple other tweaks. Do you have to send your chip to JWT. Couldn't a dealership remap the ECU if all you're doing is changing the MAF?

nope because you can't just "reprogram" it.

JWT solders on daughter boards onto the ECU. they have to physically modify it as well because nissan ECU's are designed to reset themselves each time the car is turned off and on and a full reset when a power loss occurs. they retain very little info. that's why a lot of cars in the nissan family with timing controlled by the ECU can't advance their timing... the ECU will forget the setting once the car is turned off
