sr20det transmission question

I know its probably a stupid question or something but if you buy an automatic transmission 240sx and an sr20det front clip with a 5 speed transmission can you just do the swap and instead of puttin in an automatic transmission you put in the 5 speed? Would that work? If not what would you have to do to make it work? thanks

its will work, just a regular auto ===> manuel swap

This is actually teh best time to do a auto-manual swap. You have to remove the tranny anyway, may as well do the swap...

but if you're going to have a shop do the swap, there are actually a lot of shops (who do excellent work with the SR swap) that won't touch an A/T 240SX to swap in the 5spd SR. they actually HIGHLY, HIGHLY prefer that the car is already a M/T prior to the swap. a good example would be Phase2 in CA.

well then they are dumb. they are losing money. And if someone would go through the time and effort to do a tranny swap, they shouldnt have any problems with doing the whole swap themselves. Wiring would be the biggest concern and that information is widespread ESPECIALLY for the SR20.

phase2 gets PLENTY of business anyways

hey esyip, do you know why phase2 doesn't mess around with mt 240's?? cause i know that phase2 has enuff skill to do the swap easily..

he said they will only mess with M/T. iono maybe cuz they don't wanna waste their time on doin simple conversion when they can do swaps

but afterdark does auto===>manuel swaps

the auto to manual swap isn't as easy as the SR swap, but something that can be done... just time consuming. there are a lot of small odd things that come with swapping from auto to 5spd like pedals, master/slave cylinder and the simple fact that the SR m/t is different from the KA m/t which will throw in a few extra complications since you'd be going from KA a/t to SR m/t...
