difference between the red top and the black top?

Hi, i'm just wondering what the difference is. I realize the black top is generally more expensive and is a newer version, but what exactly is teh difference physically (besides the valve cover color), and performance.

the redtops were only available for s13 sr20det's. you are right when you said the blacktops are newer. both s13 redtops and s13 blacktops had the same size turbo: T25. when the s14 sr20det came out, it had vvt and were ALL black tops. they had a bigger turbo: T28. from s14 and on, they are all blacktops.

S13 redtop and S13 blacktop are EXACTLY the same with the exception of the color of the valve cover.

as for comparing S13 SRs and S14/15 SRs, there's a few differences. search and you shall find.

There are a few cases of the black top having a slightly different turbo exhaust wheel trim - but its nothing to get excited over.
