I know this is probably a newbie question but hey, I'm a n00b to SR20DET's and I haven't had much luck searching around the web. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately?) there isn't as many forums for Nissans as there are for Honduh's and such. Anyway, what I'm looking for is a turbo upgrade for an S13 SR20DET that will give me good spool-up characteristics and 300+ horsepower at the rear wheels. I used to drive a Subaru WRX and there is a company by the name of Power Enterprise out of Japan that made a couple of really nice turbo upgrades for that car. They make one or two for the SR20DET as well but I was wondering if anybody had any experience with them or if they could suggest any other turbos they've had experience with that will give me what I'm looking for. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
I'm pretty new but have done alot of research, I've heard alot of good things about the HKS GT3037 for a 2 liter motor. Dont think i've ever seen one on a sr20 and dont know why, check it out. If you keep looking there is alot of info. out there.
Well, Greddy has the T518Z out for the SR20DET and that will make over 300HP easily. HKS came out with the GT-SS and GT-RS turbo kit that are more cost friendly and will produce around 300HP as well. Those are the name brand one but I am sure you can get a Garett or Turbonetics one for cheaper and still make 300HP at the wheel.
*I think the 2835 are too expensive and the 3037 are too laggy. The Greddy T518Z and the GT-RS or GT-SS should be both under $2000 and will make 300+HP easily.
If you want something that has great spool up and will put you over the 300whp mark, go with the GT2530. Its rated at 320hp I believe. The 2835, and 3037 will take longer to spool, and according to you spool up time is important.

Just saw your post.....I agree with you about both the 2835 and 3037's aspects. The GT-SS will run you $1,110 from www.horsepowerfreaks.com. Its the one I'm looking at for my S14 blacktop. As a bonus, it is a stock replacement for your original turbo, so it bolts right up to your stock exhaust mani, and SMIC piping if you are using that.
I have a HKS GT3037S and it is the BEST turbo for a SR20 the spool up time is almost nothing and the power rating is accualy 475-500hp and yes it is a little expensive but you will never buy another turbo again. my friend is running this turbo too and he is running 10's now. But if you cant afford the GT3037S go with the T3/T4 its ceap. but they dont last forever the inventer of that turbo has gone through 3 since designing the kit 3 years ago. so if you want to go and pay 2500 dollars every year foor a new turbo then go ahead. but ive had my GT3037s for two years now and havent had a single problem. and my friend has had his for almost two year and he has it at 20 psi daily driven and 27 race time.
That sounds like a fantastic turbo. I had actually been hoping to be able to run 300hp on the streets but be able to kick it up to around 400 for the track. From your experience, roughly how long does it take for the turbo to spool?
