We all have are options about the engines that where put into the s chassis. like i have said befor i like all of them. i just think that its dumb to openly bash or put down the KA engine. it has done some amazing things for as little development that has gone into it in the after market. for what most people would want, it has the abilty to deliver that just as good as the other 2 engines.

I am deeply involved in the performance aftermarket and have seen how fragile the KA is when pushed to levels that would not even make a STOCK SR even batt an eye.

The problem with the KA is harmonics which is fundemental to the basic design of the motor. It is not very easy to modify this apect other than using brute force engineering where everything is made super heavy and strong to change the natrual frequency of major componets. To see a KA on an engine dyno pound itself to death at power levels that would not phase an SR is frigtening.

What will work sort of cheaply to get around the harmonics is to destroke the KA considerably and to run longer connecting rods but that gives away much of the KA's displacment advantage and adds a bunch of cost. Or keep the engine below 7000 rpm, preferably 6500 rpm which limits your abilty to make power.

In addition there is very little KA valvetrain and camshaft development going on with only two companies making two grinds each, all mild, that are any good.

Why kill yourself trying to develop an engine when one is already highly developed? Most hobbiests don't have the money nor the resorses to do it right. One person I know has blown up 3 sub 400 hp KA's just rying to make one reliable enough to take on a road course. His engines were built by Sunbelt Engineering, the countrys leading Nissan engine builder in real profesional racing using the best parts, like JE pistons, carrillo rods, high tech coatings, cryo treating etc. He is giving up and selling his car, unable to meet his goals.

I told you so

For those of you who didn't go to the D1 drift compitition, there was a KA24DET built to the max with 350hp and blew up on his second lap in the first round. SR20det's with up to 500hp tearing it up all day long. and won.

im not dissin the KA because its awesome off the line, but i do have a problem with the tranny, its to weak compared to the SR's tranny and yes i have both engines
