i searched i promise.

It feels like i've searched every forum in existance for the answer to this basic question..... How much does it cost to do an SR20DET swap into a s13 240sx? I will be doing some sort of a swap with my 1990 240sx. Seriously, i want to know how much it will cost to do the swap, just the swap... like in my car, running safely and reliably - no upgrades outside of belts and mabey the timing chain. Some people have said $2500-$3000. some are saying $5000, i am so confused. i want to know how much cash i need saved before i can get on with the swap. Everyone rags on ebay as being a bad source for engines but as far as i can tell they are Japanese motors; just like everyone else sells? what i am saying there are "motor swaps" for sale on ebay which include, to the best of my knowledge everything needed to do the swap- execpt the 255lph fuel pump upgrade. Then i go search up a specific site and find a basic swap for sale for 3-4 grand. so, what does it cost to do a minimal cost, reliable SR20DET swap? SCHOOL ME PLEASE. lol

thanks for the helpful reply...... i did check out heavy throttle. So, your saying that in order to do a reliable sr20det swap i need all of this in addition to the motor, trans, ecu, alterantor, ect..:

or do i just need this kit

Kit Contains:

* 5 rib Alternator Belt & 4 rib Power Steering Belt (trim off one rib on PS belt for S14/S15 use)
* AIV hole threaded plug (S13 SR only)
* 3 piece upper Radiator Hose Kit for US Radiator (one piece for JDM Radiator) with chrome crossover pipe and clamps.
* Lower radiator hose, with mesh covering and clamps
* 3 piece Heater Hose Kit with coupling and clamps
* Instructions

5 years ago i had knowone to ask about doin the sr swap. and i still did it. you have to really research and read. its easy to just ask. but ill list what you need

motor
tranny.
wire harness from sr
wire harness from your car
intercooler plumbing
aiv plug to get rid of egr system
(id get a front clip which comes with a lot of the things you need)
ecu
ignitor chip.
(i know i left stuff out. but im tired and i cant think of something else right now)
alot of people get tired of answering this question. if you wanna do a swap yourself you have to reasearch. know one is gonna hold your hand. now if you having problems wile doing it. then we would be more that happy to help u in trying to diagnose the issue.

just one hint:

buy what you need first, not what you want.

get a front clip. if its your first swap. it comes with stock intercooler piping wire harness and even right hand drive conversion with it if the dash is in good shape. cost extra but worth it.

alright, i guess i'll buy a book on doing the swap then. I can't seem to find a straight answer on the internet and when your new to the 240/SR scene like me - its hard to know whats true and whats BS. Has anyone read the book titled "How To Drift" by Paul Morton? there is an entire SR20DET swap guide included in the book. Can anyone ates to accuracy of the information in this book?

Heres a link to the book if anyone is interested.

never heard of that book. heavy throttle is all you need. and if your not sure about the wire harness. send it out to someone like jgycustoms. you pay 100 bucks but its worth it, if you not familiar with it

do the whole swap yourself its really not that hard, i mean its not an rb26 or anything. the sr20 swap is a little expensive but pretty easy...and no you don't need all that stuff listed above unless your shooting for 300 wheel the same day you get your motor in.
Go for a red top its your best bet.
Or mod your KA what you spend on your sr20 swap and install and what not could make a ballin ass KA

Hey first off i will answer you question. Minium cost would be about $2700-$3000 dollars doing it right will cost $4000. Doing it with the mods you want will cost more. Listen to what that 1 guy said swap with what you need not what you want. Well kindof what you want if you can afford it then spend more on parts but get $4000 dollars saved up and go for the swap.
