SR20DET and OBDII

Hi there everyone,

I'm recently moved to Colorado from the UK and I'm looking to import my 1995 S14. It has a modified SR20DET pushing around 300Hp through a custom racing autobox.

Being pre-96 and from the UK, the engine does not have the OBDII system on it - I was wondering if anyone here had had to fit this system or maybe has any details about how I can go about doing it myself. I presume the majority of SR20DET engines in use over here in the US have been imported and modified according to EPA standards?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Gawain

importing the car will be a big long drawn out no. however, bringing over the parts is fine. you'd want to buy an s14 in america, and swap everything over. nothing is done to EPA standards.

Race King, what do you mean by that?

Thanks for the answers guys! Unfortunately I'm too attached to the car to just bring the engine over!

Here's the bottom line:

The SR20DET is NOT emissions legal in the U.S. The SR can be cleaned up by using a CAT and keeping most of the OEM emission devices intact.

If the emissions testing in your state doesn't require a visual inspection of the engine compartment and your 240SX is an S13 which doesn't use OBD-II, then the car should pass. If the car is an S14 with OBD-II and the emissions testing equipment plugs into the OBD-II connector, then the car will fail; also if the facility does visual checking of the engine compartment, the car will fail.

Move to a state with no emissions testing.
