i have a question. i have a 1990 240sx sr20 and i think my alternator is not working i took it to pep boys and auto zone and they checked it and it was fine but when i start my car non of the lights are working. at first i thout that it was the fuse but i checked them and they wore fin. when i start the car and i take the plues off or ground off from the battery the car shuts off. do you guy know what it is.

buddy, any car will turn off if you pull the negative terminal off the battery. you have a lighting electrical problem. your alternator will have nothing to do with that, check the fuses first then the next step is check if there is power going to the light bulb itself (it is possible that all your bulbs burn out at the same time). if your getting power to the bulb then the bulb is out. if there is no power going to the bulbs back trace to the power source. you might have an open circuit or a short to ground. do a wiggle test on the body wiring harness and see if that makes any sudden changes. you never know. a squirel could of chewed up you wires.

isn't the car Sposato run on the alternator when you take the ground off. the first thing i did was check the fuses. all the lights start working when i start driving not when i start the car. after i star driving for a few min the lights and the dash turn on. what i think i mighty be a short some were.

what type of model do you have model do you have SE? cuz my SE dash lights dont come on till the engine heats up i dunno what causes that but......could be weak connection on the tranny?
