main bearing cap position

How should the main bearing caps be installed? Right now, if I am standing on the flywheel side of the motor looking at the bottom end, I can read 1-5 cap numbers. Should I be able to read them from the flywheel side or timing side? As it sits now, the bearing notches are both on the same side and line up with each other.

did you just have the block and caps line bored? if you did, they should read from the pulley side back. if you didnt, they should be installed in the order that they were removed...
have you looked at the fsm yet? download it from this link.

i cant remember exactly, but i wanna say that the order is from left to right, left being the front of the engine. the numbers should point to the exhaust side of the engine when they are in order... this is the way ive built engines before but im not 100% positive that nissan does it this way... the fsm doesnt show the order either... i did a quick google search though and thats the info i found as well. did you have the engine line bored?

here is a pic to see what I am talking about. The notch on the top of the bearings line up on my sr20. In the pic, u can see that if u were to put one on top of the other the notches would be on the same side but not lined up with each other.
