SR20det build

I have a 240sx with a SR20DET conversion all stock. Now I want more power, let’s say 300 HP! Can this be done and keep it as a daily driver and weekend warrior? How about some ideas as where to start, I would like to keep it dependable and have a sleeping giant under the hood. I’m open to any ideas

Yeah it shouldn't be too hard. S15 turbo(quick spool time always a plus ), bigger MAF @ 14psi should be right at the 300 mark. possibly more, and it'll still be totally streetable. Got a front mount? If not, that should be the first thing you do.

hey zell in your opinion whats the max WHP you can get out of an SR and still not be a pain in the ass to drive as a daily. Also what turbo upgrade would be the best choice to get 400WHP

Zell do you mean the turbo from a S15 Silvia? Will they make that much boost? How much boost can I get from the turbo that's on my red top?

Look at it this way. THe S15 silvia turbo is a dual ball bearing turbo. It's excellent spool is meant for daily driving, as well as track. Nissan turbos can hold 14psi. So you're looking at...

S15 silvia turbo,
Bigger Fuel injectors
FMIC
Hardpipes (for FMIC, trust me, you're going to want them)
Look at some exhaust stuff too (Recommend this first, easy bolt-on) Such as a dump tube, down pipe, and cat back.

For daily driving, I would personally say 300-350 whp. The only pain in the ass you might encounter is your limited traction. To reach 400whp, and maintain excellent spool and a T25 flange, a GT2871R with either the .64 or .86 exh. side. Don't forget about good engine management!

Thanks for the response...I have already installed a VLSD from the J30, is that ok for now? As far as engine management... I dont really understand! Can you explain?
Does this just replace the stock computer that I already have? Do you have any suggestions? Sorry for all the questions I'm kinda new to this, but I really want to learn, and I love this little car.

Your J30 diff is definitely helping, your headed in the right direction. Engine management simply replaces the stock ECU, and allows tuning of all the fuel and ignition values. It will basically allow you to see maximum power and reliability. The stock ECU runs the engine a bit lean or rich in some areas as well as too little/much timing in some areas. This is something you should let an experienced tuner handle. Some systems are plug and play, some are not. For the SR and many other applictaions I like the Apexi Power FC. I use one on my personal car. They can be found on ebay used relatively cheap. Here is some info: http://www.apexi-usa.com/product_ele...=197&pageNum=1

also an aftermarket ecu is only as good as the guy who tunes it.
300hp is doable but from 300 to 400 you start running into all kinds of problems that can really only be solved properly with a rebuild with forged internals - which is expensive

how expensive is that? to get to 400RWHP but safe and daily driveable....about 6G's with engine+labor included?

its very expensive to get there and then upkeep it. Personally a 400hp car scares the shit out of me. Id go for something a little less in the power but more reliable. A mate of mine has a 450hp S14 sr and he is on his 3rd rebuild, fifth clutch and 3rd gearbox. I think for streetability the clutch is the main issue because the more power you have, the stronger the clutch has to be and the harder the car will be to drive normally.

300-350 is a good number and will still get you into the mid 12's which is plenty fast and you will still be able to reverse park the thing and drive in peak hour traffic!!

lol sounds like a cool deal. Have you heard of anyone using the Z33 clutch on their SR? Nissanperformancemag, said that they used a 350z clutch, and claimed it can hold 500 rwhp.

OK 300rwhp Recipe,
300zx maf
550cc injectors
RSEnthalpy tune
s15 turbo
front mount
exhaust
downpipe
blah, blah all the normal bolt on's

400rwhp recipe,
300zx maf
740cc injectors
RSEnthalpy tune
GT2871r .86 a/r
headgasket
Headbolts
Cams
Greddy intake manifold

300 and 400 rwhp are safe on stock internals and still very streetable. I know I have had both on an SR. Remember just because you have the power does not mean you are always using it.
