I'm about to buy a 1995 240sx and i was looking to get the S15 engine which is the SR20 correct?!? Well anyway i heard the engine comes with a turbo, and of course the trans. I'm not a car expert and i'm not good with google finds on car parts, but what do i need to get the engine swap done, a bigger turbo than comes with, and other quality parts? All help is greatly appreciated
go to srswap.com. Also known as Heavythrottle. They have a complete write up on how to swap an sr into a 240. The S15 is the hardest one to swap. You need a 5-speed trans, or if you want to keep the 6-speed, you need the S15's rear end. Reason being that the speed sensor is located in the rear end. Yes the 5-speed bolts straight up to the S15 engine, the blocks are identical. So any part from an S14 sr20det should work on a s15 sr20det.
This is true, yet it is still easy. It is just more work. I put my S15 in over the weekend. Replacing your diff and running a couple wires doesn't take too long.
You will have to also get a Dakota Digital SGI-5 to convert your speedo signal. Other then that it is a normal swap.
I highly suggest getting a front clip for any sr20 swap.

Alright I just bought an 02 sr20det s15, and i have a 90 240sx, is it true that if you dont bother with the speed sensor, the only thing that won't work is your speedo? cause if thats the case i could care less. I've been working on my swap for a little while now, also what does the dakota digital sgi-5 do? does it replace the sensor? or does it work in conjunction with the sensor? Any information/help would be greatly appreciated, this is my dream car, been working on it for a long time, not just the swap, so thanks for all the help!
If you want to stay with the SR 6-speed, then yes you'll have to go with the S15 differential because the 6-speed tail shaft housing doesn't have a provision for a speed sensor.
Pick up an SR bellhousing for a 5-speed, then you can bolt a KA tranny to it. The KA tranny uses the OEM speed sensor so the speedo problem should be solved.
