sr20det engine questions

two questions

fisrt of all there are small (about 1/4 inch diameter) round metal disks between the rockers and the valve stem. There are two different models one is simply a cylinder and the other is a cylinser with two small tabs on each side. If you look on one side (intake or exhaust) there is always the first model on the first valve then the other model on the second valve then the first model and so on. On the opposite side they are disposed in the same way except starting with the second model. In other words the disposition is a zig zag.

I think that they are made to prevent one valve from turning at the same speed as its sister valve.( the one on the same rocker) The model with the two tabs crates a larger friction and the valve turns slower than the one that has the model with no tabs.

Am I right???

If so can I inverse their disposition when I do my rebuilt to sort of equalize???

Second question: Are the rockers on the intake side the same as the exhaust side???

Does anybody have the plans of the SR20DET???

you are talking about the shims. the tabs you are talking about are what keeps the rocker arms in line. you don't want to mix them up because they are all different thicknesses . hope you didn't take them all out and mix them up cause you will have to re measure all your valve clearances and match them up with the proper shims. so to answer your questions. the friction thing no. inverting them will only mess up your valve shimming. all the rocker arms can be slightly different that's why the shims are there to correct for any slight differences in the valve clearance. their is no manual for the s13 sr20det in English. you need to find a fsm for an s14 sr20det. all the torque specs are the same . the only differences are the vct and some wiring things. check out ebay you can find them on cd for cheap.

Unfortunately I mixed them up but my motor has low mileage and is in great great shape. All the shims have thickness from 0.1180 to 0.1195 inch so they all have about the same thickness. I created pairing with the guides that all have the same thickness too.( from 0.118 to 0.1195).

Shims are different thickness when motor has wear and then you must measure valve clearance to select the right shim for replacement

am I right?

no they are different from the start. you will have to re shim all the valves back to factory tolerance. get a fsm. it tells you how to do it.
