My S13 240sx has an SR20DET, and the other day I managed to pop off a rocker arm while revving around 7000RPMs in 1st gear. Greddy and HKS have a product called "rocker arm stoppers", and I'm curious, is this a good solution to prevent that from happening again? Or is that just a band aid over a more subtle issue?
Also, the Greddy product is $63 while the HKS one is $102, is there a compelling reason why the HKS product could be better, or should I just get the cheaper product?
RAS's are a great low-cost solution. The alternative is to go with solid lifters, but this is much more expensive.
I went with the GReddy unit, and only had one issue: I couldn't tighten the cam gears on the cams because the hexagonal portion of the cam that you put the wrench on to keep it from turning was covered up by the RAS. Other than that, it's a great product.

IIRC, I used needlenose vicegrips to on the hexagonal portion to secure the cam as best as I could. It looks like a cast finish on that portion, so I didn't scar it. I hit it with an impact to quickly get it torqued, then put the vicegrips on and torqued it using a torque wrench.
I wish I knew of an easier way to do it...

How difficult is it to put these rocker arm stoppers on? and is there a web site. so that i can find out the how too's on the RAS install.

On a scale of 1 - 10, with "1" being an oil change and "10" being something like a transmission or engine rebuild, I'd say it was a 3 or 4 because I couldn't access the aforementioned hexagonal part of the cams to tighten the cam sprockets on. If you had a wrench that was either designed to fit in the space, or bit the bullet and ground one down to fit, it's be a piece of cake. Just follow FSM instructions on cam retainer removal and installation, as you risk snapping the cams in half if you don't.

Factory Service Manual. Right click here and "Save Target As." This is the S14SR manual courtesy of ZeroYon, and is used because it's the closest version we have to a redtop manual in English. Enjoy, and remember to right click and "Save Target As."
