Honestly, go with the SSautochrome. I've had too many headaches with my hotshot and I don't plan on buying another hotshot for a LOOONNGGG time.

2 reasons. 1, I've seen MANY hotshot headers CRACK at the welds, and 2, all the headers prior to the Gen3 were not well thought out. For example: The Gen5 has the O2 sensor reaching out into the fans for no reason at all. The Gen6 clashes with many parts, such as the AC compressor and the stock fans, it also has a VERY SHORT flex pipe which would worry me about stress cracks.

I'm currently waiting for a response from SSAutoChrome about a custom header that would go well with my current mods. If not, I may just have one custom made.

I had a HS on my 99 se-l sr20 and it was fine then I switched it over to the de on my nx2000 and it was still good. I then swapped in a ve motor and used it as well and it lasted. I have heard of the problems but it was fine for me. I had a gen 3.

I also had a pacesetter and I loved it.

But if your on the budget then go with the ss autochrome

Before you purchase the SS Autochrome I'd suggest you read the Sticky: Why you shouldn't buy SSautochrome

Something to think about anyway

So it's better to buy a hotshot that'll just crack?

I still support SSAutochrome, inspite of the whole copyright issue. I just can't argue against the bang-for-buck you get from it (sorry, Kojima ).

Well if Harris says it's ok then I guess it's OK! (no sarcasm intended)

True, it's a good bang for buck... and no header will last forever. So it's your call.

SSAutochrome sells the OBX header right? That’s the one you’re referring to, right?

Yes, and yes.

I only support it because I have actually seen that header. The welds are top-notch. The build and power-gains from the header are good enough to warrant a purchase.

HAHAHAAH! Funny. We have pics of the SS Autochrome header and the HS together and I can say with confidence that they are similar, but tow different headers. The SS is a lot bigger and has thicker flanges and larger ports. Say what you want, and I like John, but the SS header does not look like a HS IMHO!
These pics come from Ninety-Nine SEL's post on the SR20 forum!
#1: Bigger primaries than the GenV:

#2: THICK FLANGES:

#3: HUGE ports (supposedly will fit the VE and DE):

#4: Show-class look and under $200:

so, about the cracking...

where abouts are the headers cracking? is it possible that a 2 dollar piece of card steel might resolve the whole issue, by supporting the header? or is it an issue that really cant be resolved? i would like to put a hotshot header on my SE-R, but they are a tad expensive...would it be better to buy the SSAC piece? it would not be that difficult for me to fabricate a support brace.

With my bad experience with Hotshot's CAI. I will definitely stay away from Hotshot.

The SSAC is a terrific value. You can pick one up for under $200 all day long on E-bay. Most folks get them for below $150.

You can check it out when you get it, but it should not need any additional support.

2 cents
