question about motor mounts

my mounts are on their last leg. if i order the es inserts, do i need to purchase new mounts also, or are the inserts just replacement for the rubber on my old mounts?

Dont get ES get full Prothanes, you wont regret it. Youll have to get the old mounts pressed out and the new ones in. No need to buy anything new.

^Second that. I never liked ES inserts, and they can't help if your stockers are totally dogged out. I poured my own for $27, but you'll have to search for that info. Prothane is just as cheap, and theoretically easier.

I don't know why you guys don't like the ES inserts. I love mine. I added them on my x-member when the car had 163,000 miles, and then the other two when it rolled over to 171,000 miles.

The ES inserts completely replace the rubber on the pass. mount and the dog mount. You actually insert only into the rear x-member mount and tranny mount while retaining the stock rubber on them.

so if the rubber in my stock mounts is coming out the side, i can't just get the inserts (es or prothane, whatever) and knock the rubber out and substitute the insert for the rubber? that was the impression i got. do i need to buy new mounts and then put the inserts in?

That depends on which mount the rubber is coming out of.

/\ the front one most of all, next to where the tranny bolts to the engine. the top side mount (?) looks straight, but i wil probably replace it anyways. maybe this will stop my engine shift. it literally bounces around in the engine bay. i think i can attribute it to the act clutch and it's ungodly clamping force. fuck.

in my opinion if you going to buy new mounts and get inserts you might as well buy new mounts from jwt or placeracing if they are still around.

Id rather spend 40 bucks on prothanes then pay 200+ on JWT or placeracings, which are known to have problems.

ooh really- what type of problems? I had es inserts and then bought placeracing mounts and never had any problems. I am just curious of what type of problems they have? And I have had the placeracing mounts for 3 years now

That description is not helping me understand exactly which mount is shot in your car.

the front one, right under the exhaust manifold. the rubber is hanging out the side.

Oh, the front x-member one! You just have to take out the old rubber and replace it all with the ES insert for that mount.

right on, but do they come in a set, or idividually? i guess i could just call courtesy parts and ask. that's a good place to buy es items, correct? Harris also, on an unrelated note, would you reccomend using a ga clutch cable on an sr, and if so, what year? apparently, ga clutch cables changed somehow after 97 or 98, according to the guy at the local nissan dealer. i am in the process of trying to fix everything i did half assed, or have destroyed as of recently.
