coolant leak

I noticed one day that my coolant level was really low, so I filled it up, then looked under my car while it was running and saw coolant dripping off the oil pan. I'm guessing it was leaking from the water pump, but when my car warmed up, the dripping stopped. I kept driving normal, checked my coolant a few days later, and it was low again. When I start it up it will leak, but when it's warm it will stop, can somebody please explain why its doing this.

I've never had mine leak, so I really don't know what state the motor has to be in for the leak to occur. All I know is that if you see coolant coming out the weep hole of the water pump (regardless of whether the motor is hot or cold) or if your coolant level is falling (keeping in mind there are no other leaks), you need a new water pump.

Is it possible to see the weep hole without removing anything?

Yea, punch yourself in the eye, walk over to a mirror, look at your eye that you punched with your other eye. You should be able to see the weep hole and the leak at the same time.

Sorry, I am tired, being an ass, and need to go to bed...

...and don't have any idea where the weep hole is!

The coolant stops leaking because the metal expands as it warms and the leak stops. Replace the waterpump before it gets worse...or even worse..you forget to check the level and it overheats and toasts the motor.

Everything on this motor is difficult!!...not much room to work on that particular end of the motor...and the pulley is right down there next to the oil filter...haven't done one on this type of car yet, but I've done dozens of others, and each model, be it a Nissan, Honda or toyota..presents it's own interesting set of challenges...slow and steady and carefully is the key...and a nice variety of tools helps.. :-)
