ok. i've been getting mixxed info on the subject of swapping out my sr20 for a jdm turbo. the bluebird comes with an awd tranny, but bolts up to the fwd 200sx se-r tanny. the top mount intercooler is too small on the blue bird. correct? what's up with the GTiR? does it mount up wiht the stock transmission. awd would be fucking awesome, but i imagine it would be more hassle than i can handle (tweek!) so fwd it is the project is a few months away, but i need to know what to save for. any advice would help. -jeff

so the GTiR comes out of a pulsar. all just need is an engine that is set up for turbo, then i can do turbo work. the idea of turocharging the n/a sr20 is out of the question due to financial constraints and plain common sense. my sr20 has almost 90k. when i had my mr2, folks in the mr2 message board were constantly trying to turn the n/a 2.2 into a turbo, but the 3sgte swap was way easier. so thanks, or something.

The MR2 situation is different. The N/A MR2 has a completely different motor that is not boost-happy. Thats why swapping in the 3SGTE makes more sense.
I presume that you don't know the potential of a naturally aspirated SR20DE. I know of many folks who have turbocharged their DEs and have had no engine troubles. At 90k miles, you have just started breaking in your motor. Do a compression test on your DE. If the results come out to be good, by all means, just get a turbo kit for your DE and start boosting.
The only issue with the SE-Rs (all of them) is the tranny, which is prone to breaking, N/A or turbo'd. The SR20 is a very strong motor. You hardly hear of one breaking, as long as they are maintained well.
Do a little bit of research before you make your decision. I guarantee you won't regret taking the time to your homework and saving yourself some money along the way too.
Refer to the sticky I posted in the 2.0 section. I will be adding more resources to it as and when I get the opportunity to.

harris-the thing is, i have at least 6 months before i can save enough money do a swap or turbo kit. i can't justify paying almost 2g's for a turbo kit when i can buy a low mileage bb from totalboost or (insert similar importers name) for 1200, or better yet, a whole front clip for 1200, which i have seen. i'm a broke ass student, but i have been jonesing for boost since i totalled the mr2. i drove and abused the shit out of a 94 sentra e, and it just wouldn't die, so i saved and bought an se-r. way more sensible than the mr2, plus i can fit more hookers in the se-r.

As I said, refer to the sticky I posted. You mght change your mind if you read the material on Greg Perry's site, for example. In the end, do as you wish, but do so after having considered everything. Sometimes it's best to have made a well-informed decision.
Personally, I'd suggest that you wait until after you're done with college to turbo your car. Believe me, the last thing you want is to have more money issues than you can handle. That's why I've been holding out until I graduate this May so I can get a better paying job and therefore be able to afford to pay for boost instead of burdening myself with unnecessary debt. Patience is a virtue my friend. It'll go a long way for you.
