2-3000rpm Hesitation

I have a 92 SE-R with JDM motor(duh) and heres my problem. My car runs like poo. Between 2,000 and 3,000 I have a serious hesitation problem it does it in every gear. Also the car runs really strong all the way up to 5,600 and then it falls off. Local Sentra guys tell me their cars pull all the way up to 7,500 why doesn't mine. Just to get a few things out of the way I have done a minor tune-up ie NGK plugs,Wells cap,Wells rotor,NGK wires. Since I did the tune up the car runs stronger but the problem is still there. Can anyone help me out.

Check your ignition timing and MAF for now.

I believe Harris means check the ground on your MAF. It might need re-wired. Common problems that cause 2k-3k hesitation on the SR20 are:

- MAF re-ground
- clogged fuel filter (replace)
- PCV valve (replace)
- dirty throttle body (clean out)
and...

...EGR/BPT valve failure.

Go to the auto parts store and purchase some rubber nipples. Remove the rubber hose that connects the EGR to the BPT and cap off both valves. Take the car for a spin and see if this cures the hesitation. If it does, this is only a temporary fix. (Mine was temp. for over 4 years on my old NX, anyhow..) You will need to replace the EGR and/or BPT valve but they can be expensive. At the time that was why my temporary fix was for over 4 yearws.

Good luck!

I've had an exhaust leak for a while as well and went to remedy that today and found out that the leak in a crack in my AIV tube could this also cause the same problem or should I just stick to the previous replies.

Absolutely. The fix AIV leak first. That recircs air into the throttle body. If it is leaking, it can potentially cause serious driveability problems like your experiencing.

Ok. I guess im just going to work my way down the list. I have fixed my AIV leak. Also re-grounded my MAF it was reading .014mv now it reads .003mv. But the thing is it runs even stronger now up to 7,500rpm but I still have the 2-3000rpm hesitation. Guess I'll have to replace the fuel filter and unfortuanately go after that TB. I heard it can be a bitch to do.

That hesitation could be due to the non-OEM rotor and cap you have. Try working on th fuel filter and TB first. What did you gap your plugs at? Make sure they're at 0.0043 inch.
