Legal engine swap

Don't know about the legality of your engine swap, but you may also want to watch the insurance. Changing the engine is may cause problems. Logic runs - you changed x from standard, this configuration is not tested in crashes, therefore you are not covered. Also if part is better, it is obviously for a reason they won't like. Not reporting changes is worse.

Up here changing to winter tires is a performance mod. If you want to stop better you obviously want to drive too fast. 200 reported accidents going into work in 1 day, cold enough salt don't work (-42C), and there's still a question on why anyone wants to have max ability to stop?

You won't pass in Cali. The visual inspection alone will screw you.

Actually, it is legal to switch just engine and trany, if they are functionally identical, now how they define that is up to them, but if you have all the California legal smog equip and you just replace the engine and trany, seeing its fwd, it is legal, ck http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/replace.htm its considered a japanese replacement engine, legal here just as long as you do it right, but unfortunately you cant have a turbo on it from japan. But not to squash all your hopes of turbo, jwt makes a CARB legal turbo for the SR20, check the Executive orders on the arb site. If anymore info is needed, pm me. I have probably research this too much, because i have been wanting to drop an SR20 into my b13 but i have to worry about getting residency for school. Oh well, have fun.

a DET can never be legalized in cali, because of the visual inspection. if you drop a N/A jdm sr20 u can pass as long as you change over your intake manifold and all your emission stuff is hooked up. btw try not to have loud muffler on the freeway or else the CHP will get you for modified exhaust and will pop your hood in the process. i know very weaksauce, all my friends got pulled over. im the last one and i have the loudest exhuast hehe

there is one DET set up that is legal, if you have an sr20 91-999 and but a JWT turbo on it, it is legal, here is the EO http://arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermkt/de...eo/D-244-2.pdf
It is legal, just has restrictions on it

California laws suck! As someone mentiioned before, you wont be able to smog a JDM DET engine in this fine state without slipping a few benjamins in someones pocket. The only legal choice is indeed, the JWT turbo system.

if you don't do anything illegal, you have no reason to fear cops. but if you streetrace, maybe you should be afraid.

Ya know what--everyone just needs to move to a state where they don't do emissions testing........that would kick ass.....................

I agree.. I'm one of those lucky persons, I live in South-Africa, Gauteng province. Here in South-Africa you can do any mod and drive with a loud exhoust and the worst that could happen is a fine. We don't even have emission testing here.
Unfortunatly I don't have the money at this stage to mod my 1995 Sabre 200GXI (Pulsar SSS SR20DE). I got it in Nov'03 after some #@% rearended :dumbass: my Sentra GA16DE.
