99 Sentra SE 2.0 or Classic SE-R?

I'm thinking of selling/trading in my 94 Sentra 1.6 in favor of one of these two cars. Obviously the 99 SE would be in better condition, but the SE-R has better modding potential/handling.

Is the SR20 in the 99 SE the exact same engine as the one in an SE-R? Which car would you guys recommend?

no they aren't the same, the head and intake manifold design are different. also the 99 has a ton of emissions stuff added. search for highport vs. lowport

That isn't entirely true. The B13 SE-Rs from '91-'93 had the high-port, and the '94s had the low-port.

Get a B13, doesn't matter what year it is (91-94). You won't regret it.

I say go with the 99 se I have one and a nx2000 but I would prefer the 99se ..
IMO the overall car is better & has a more new look to it. plus its nice to have 4 doors. It does weigh a little more but it is worth it. This is just my opinion I love my nx but it is not as comfortable as my 99se. Oh sorry forgot to add you will also lose the lsd plus a little rewiring has to be done to the ecu to get a jwt or g20 ecu to work.

EDIT: Forgot to say I also like the fact of the all power options in the 99se

Here is my web page if you want to check it out.http://www.cardomain.com/id/selrider99

You're talking about a huge price difference between the two. I think the best USDM sr20 poweree car is a B13 SE-R but that's me, and I realized when I paid $3500 for a 9 year old car, that I was going to be spending at least that much again to have the car "new" where it matters. Only other SR20 powered car I like is the P11 G20, but they're way too expensive and even though I'd like my wife to get one, I think that if she were going to spend that kind of money I'd look real hard at what else she could buy in that range. I think a B14 SE-R would do in a pinch. If you like the look of them, I think an NX2K is the best bang for the buck SR20 powered car made.

in my opinion, you can't go wrong with which ever you get...i think you should first look for what's available and what kind of a deal you can get

It all depends on the deal you can get on each car and which would work out the best in your situation. (2 door vs. 4 door)

I like the classics a lot, and they can be had for a pretty good deal. The 99 SE is a nicer riding car, but will cost you more $$$ to get. If you're looking for a significant performance increase, I'd say get the classic, because the money you'll save on the 91 vs. the 99 you'll end up spending on mods that will improve the look and performance while replacing "high mileage need to replace items" like suspension bushings, motor mounts, and the like. Not to mention the 91 has a better flowing cylinder head and that all-important LSD in the tranny that the 99 doesn't have. The 99 will have all the OBD2 emissions items, which makes modding the car a little bit more involved, that the 91 will not have. The 91's are also more receptive to JDM engine swaps due to the scaled down emissions. The 99 should be in newer condition and will have those luxuries (power options) the 91 doesn't have. I like the B14 look myself , but I also like a clean looking classic. It's all in what you need and want out of the car.

[quick question]didnt the 2001 also have LSD?[/quick question]

i've had a 1998 SE automatic (lost in a car accident), 2001 SE with performance package (lost to bank repo ), and now own a 1992 SE-R.

and i can admit, the B13 DOES feel quicker in the turns.
the LSD makes one heck of a difference

Hmmm

You have to ask yourself what you want out of the car. If you want the better performing car, you want the b13 SE-R. I don't care what any of these rug rats say, the b13 is faster and handles much better from the factory.

Racing facts.

My 91 SE-R (215k mi) when stock pulled on a 96 SE-R (70k mi). The racing was done in a controlled environment BTW. Around the corners the 91 also performed better.

I agree about the sorta shoe box look of the b13 compared to the b14. I really like the looks of the 200 SX and even say a 99 SE with some tint on the back and some nice wheels. The 99 SEs are not as quick as I thought they would be though. My 91 pulls really hard on them stock. There are plenty of things that you can do to the 200 SX and the 99 SE though, it is just going to cost you some money. So if you are willing to wait, I'd say go with the newer car and slowly do your modding. If you want it all now, get a b13.

BTW nx2krider93, your 99 looks good man, real good.

depends on what you want to do.

mod for mod there is no b13 that is faster than my car in a straight line or in a corner.
