read this on sr20 mods

since NO ONE helped me find a bigger throttle body for my car i figured it out on my own. the air flow sensor hooked up to our intake (on sr20de that is) is only 58mm allowing only 58mm of airflow to our 60mm throttle body!! shit... so i find a 95-98 nissan maxima v6 and steel its' 70mm throttle body which would do me no good because of the 58mm air flow sensor i could purchase a bigger one of those to accomodate but then i would have to find a bigger air intake and have my ecu re-tuned by JWT most likley to make it all run smooth. life sucks. thus i will stick to my nitrous and have fun running 8.9 sec 1/8th mile times. tell me if some of this make sense to anyone!

It would be more economical for you to buy a bored MAF and a bored TB and then add in a cold air intake. Your ECU would need to be touched up for driveability and performance gains also. Perfect if you could get as much as you can from someone used and who has no need for the parts anymore. Although, this should only be considered if you've done all the other bolt-ons already and these are the bottlenecks to more hp, especially since the stock SR20DE MAF can support 200+ hp. Otherwise, the expense might outweigh the benefits.

se-rious200,

What nitrous kit are you using and how much are you spraying. I am planning on hooking up a nitrous kit to my 95 se-r and don't know if the car will be reliable or even if it can handle any spray at all. I am not saying the engine is a peice of shit. Just saying that I don't want to blow it. Let me know. Thanks

Justin

If you haven't rebuilt your engine completely, I wouldn't use nitrous at all. You could be opening one or several Pandora's boxes by using it with an engine of some age, whether 50,000 miles or more. There's simply too much you're subjecting your engine to, especially with wear to even the slightest degree. You could eat a hole in a piston, overstress a rod and slam it out the case...These are both things to consider, and then some. I'd save your pennies for both an engine to rebuild and the NOS kit, man. You'll be happy you did.

I have 165,000 miles on my engine and I will be hooking nitrous up this spring. Its an SR20 btw. i reckon my tranny will go before the engine, ill be running a 75 shot. This engine does not need to be new or rebuilt for the use of nitrous or a turbo just make sure its in good running condition before you do it. no rod knock, no excessive valve train noise, and you'll be fine. an sr20 can be had for 350 bucks, w/ about 30k miles. if it blows get another....

^^^

You better make sure you have good compression numbers before even thinking of squirting the juice. The motor could blow up on the first try for all you know. No one should ever think of turbocharging or going nitrous without checking the health of the motor first.

The RWD SRs aren't cheap. Only FWD DE motors can be had at that price. The FWD DETs have a higher price tage.

You could just get the RWD DE for that much, but you'd still need the tranny, ECU etc for your 240. So you're "screwed" either way.

Try http://www.soko.com for a quote. You won't have much luck to be honest, but do try nonetheless.

but yea, of you can afford a rebuild do it...but its prolly not a necessity yet

Unless you have one badass bolt on NA car(190hp+) the bigger TB isn't going to anything for you.
