SR20 backfiring, need help

So heres what happened i put it into first and accelerate to about 5000 rpms then i put it into 2nd and the car backfires sending out a huge cloud of black smoke. At this point it feels like its running on 2 cylanders, I put it into third and it backfires again and the stalls out. So i pulled of the road and poped the hood but couldn't get it to start without stalling almost imediatly. So I tried to give so gas to keep the engine from stalling and this time it sent black smoke out my muffler and my intake! So now im trying to figure what went wrong. I've spoken with Blair and he believed that it was a broken rocker arm or valve spring but when i removed the valve cover the rocker arms, valve springs and timing chain all appear to be fine!? So anybody got a clue as to whats the problem?

EDIT:
a few updates..

Today we compression tested the motor. The results where as follows:

1:175
2:175 (Note: The plug was especially dark....running rich)
3:160
4:175

There is smoke comming out of the vent tube that enters into the upper left of the valve cover.

We took the cone filter off, and huge fireballs shoot out from the MAF sensor/filter adapter as the engine backfires through the intake manifold.

Although the compression of 160 is not THAT low, we beleive that cylinder 3 has a bent valve(intake side).

Any ideas?

BTW,
The head-gasket is fine...compression is fine all across the 1,2 & 4.

there is a spec on how close the compression tests should be to each other. Hold on, let me go get my fsm...

the difference between cylinder should only be 14 psi.
It says to pour a small amount of oil into the cylinder through the spark plug hole and then retest compression. If adding oil helps, then the piston ring may be worn or damaged. If pressure stays low, a valve may be seating improperly or sticking. If valve or valve seat is damaged excessively they need to be replaced.
