Valve cover + highport in-cam

Hey guys
I was considering changing the valve cover on my '98 SR20 since I have a highport intake cam waiting to be installed and need to have the cover removed to check a noise coming from the engine anyway.

My question is: are there any parts I should consider replacing or installing while my engine is uncapped? I know I need to find a head gasket, but would you guys suggest changing out any other internal parts subject to regular wear-and-tear? I'm not interested in upgrading the internals unnecessarily, just replacing parts that may cause trouble in the future. The motor has 67,000 miles, but has been cared for and runs real well despite some minor noises.

Of course, any suggestions/advice on installing the cam or changing the valve cover would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

You are not going to expose the head gasket. You will expose the valve cover gasket(s). It and the spark plug rings are neoprene or viton, they can be reused if not damaged. You will need some grey sealant for the cam ends.

You should probably consider replacement of the cam oiling tubes. They've been redesigned with bigger holes, though your late-model SR20 might already have them.

Anyone know where to get some good gaskets? Are there any that are considered better than others or is the OE valve cover gasket good enough?

Thanks once again for your input, bahearn. Thanks also for correting me on the gaskets. CarloSR had a pretty enlightening response also - it's better than no response I suppose.
