new JDM SR20DE probs

I just recently installed a JDM Sr20DE and I have a serious backfire issue... Wasn't their in my old motor. I have a new cap, rotor, plugs, wires etc... When I hook up my jacobs ignition it gets worse. THe backfire is louder... I tried retiming the car twice but am unsure what the problem is. any ideas?

i just did an engine swap myself and i dont mean to offend you with some simple advice like this but there are alot of sensors/plugs or vacume lines that you should just double check.

I'd suggest checking the ignition timing. Sounds like something's not right with the spark.

when i had tried starting mine after the swap it did that. the reason was, they get the engine in from japan then they do a compresion check and they didnt put the spark plugs in all the way. but you already changed those so that cant be it.... I AM STUMPED!!!

Well maybe I will double check how tight they are.. maybe one came loose or I forgot to tighten it... But here is a weird thing too, when I tried timing it I couldn't get the pointer to the Second line from the left. go figure that... I don't know if my JWT ecu is messing with it or what but I know I am losing power somewhere... well it doesn't help I need to fix my rear main seal!!!

A couple of sensors actually can cross to each other, egr etc, I don't have my egr crap anymore and have a couple of leftovers, just a thought.

Additionally, I had the same problem, wasn't as severe as your;s sounds, but I bumped my ignition timing and poof, problem solved. I also put in ngk coppers, v-powers at the same time. so either way. Iridiums suck IMO

would the timing chain solve that kinda sh*t? i'm having the same issue... but in my case... the engine has died 2 or 3 times at around 2000 rpm, and when i start it, mean backfire...

your distributor could be 180* out. everytime we work on my friend's car and have to pull the distributor we always put it in 180 out for some reason.

check the plug wire order, make sure they're all in correct order.
