Hey guys, i'm new on this board and i just picked up a 92 SE-R with 185k miles but it's in good shape (just had a bunch of maintenance done) I normally work on hondas, i have a 2000 turbo civic EX making 176/173 to the ground on 8 psi.
I guess i just need some suggestions on what to do with the SE-R. I really wanted to swap a DET into it, but a friend with a 02 spec V suggested that i just turbo the DE with a nismo manifold from courtesy nissan. Have any of you done this or is it just easier to do a DET longblock swap.
I may just get some boltons to begin with and maybe a 50-70 wet kit, this is basically going to be my project/race car. I was hoping to spend around 400-500 on the boltons and eventually do the turbo later in the year.
If any of you know of any suggestions please let me know, i'm definetely open to different opinions.

To do a turbo for the car is very cheap, its not even worth adding on the nos until later. It's theoretically possible to do a turbo kit with bluebird parts for around $1000, but for a good one, which will make more wheel hp than your civic, you should spend around $2k not counting labor. Since manifolds, turbos and fuel injectors for our cars can be gotten off other cars, they are possibly the easiest cars to turbo for the money, and the block can take a whole lot of it with proper detonation management.

Good luck, maybe w/ all used parts. You will probably spend around $2000 to go turbo. Keep in mind you will also need a reprogramed ECU and upgraded clutch.
With so many miles on your car, it might make more sense to swap in a sr20det. Just my 2 cents.

haha my civic is the 1.6L 1 cam, for 8 psi boost comparing it to the sentra 1.6L motor i'd say it's pretty good. Besides i make 173 wheel torque and i can up the boost some more to about 10. I dynoed it with a clogged up cat and it runs much harder with a test pipe, i'd imagine it's at least good for 200 whp now. I ran a 14.1 @ 99 but with a really bad 2.36 60 foot (i'm not used to the 1/4 mile track) I ran the 1/8 with a 2.1 on stock 175/65/14 firestones w/a time of 9.0 @ 79 mph (in the winter i trapped 81 at the same track)
I think i'm gonna end up doing the BB DET swap since my motor has 185k miles on it right now. Maybe i'll get some boltons and do a 100 shot for a while till it dies...not sure how much abuse the motors can take on nitrous.

hrmm i read on some website i think JGY that they dyno'd 204 whp on stock boost, i'm not sure if that's with 4" exhaust or what but i'd be plenty happy with that. With just a boost controller and a decent exhaust/timing correction how much boost could the motor/T25 handle and what kind of power is that making?

that mightve been either the GTi-R engine or the Avenir(newer sr20det)
not too sure how much psi u can boost the stock engine to.....i remember someone telling me 8 or 10psi........dont quote me, and if its 10psi, i'm sure it would push u at over 200whp....but again, i'm not certain on these numbers

i think it was the T25 base BB motor not the T28 sunny one hrmm...what would you have to do to push the motor to at least a bar cause i know the stock internals handle 400 whp. Im kind of new at this but does it have something to do with a MAF or something? I really want to be able to dip into the 12's and still be pretty streetable on stock internals, what would i have to do to reach those goals?
A low 14 or high 13 just doesn't really impress me with such a notorious motor cause my puny 1.6L civic is capable of those times on just a small apexi ball bearing turbo @ 8 psi and it even weighs more than the SER

Keep in mind though, w/ your set-up you didn't have much room for improvement, Honda engines just aren't designed to handle boost. With only small mods. to a sr20det engine and you will soon be hitting around 300hp.
