Lightbulb GReddy SP: long-term report

i'm enjoying the ride. hello fellow nissan lovers, i just installed a Greddy SP Exhaust to my 99 SE-L a couple wks ago, and ihave to admit it's not bad. but i have some questions about it.
here's a few things i noticed from observation:

1. it's pretty loud, even from inside the cockpit . someone told me that the volume will decrease after it gets 'broken in'. is this true???

2. there's a funny chemical smell coming from back there, i think (?) it'll wear off soon.

anyway, for you SP owners out there, give me a report on any probs or plusses about these catbacks. i chose it because it's 50-state smog legal (i live in ca ).
things i don't like are the polished finish and the big a** 4-inch tip, which attracts attention. i'm thinking of powdercoating the whole muffler part a gunmetal or even dark gray/black.
i wish i could replace the tip for a smaller one, like a 2.5 or 3". anyone tried that before?

get back to me my fellow Nissaners!

1) Yes the sound will decrease.

2) It is burning off some chemical that GReddy uses on the metal. It will burn off in a day or two.
