Replacing a fuel injector, '91 se-r

Found a bum fuel injector, coil's open. Car runs the same (BAD) w or w/o it connected. FSM says pull whole fuel rail to replace one, needless to say I'd rather just pull the bad injector. Seems like after removing the little metal cover (2 screws) the injector should pull out (haven't tried yet because I need to be able to move the car in & out of the garage, which is possible now, and I don't have the part yet). Is this the case, or do I need to pull the rail? Also FSM says replace the insulator as well as the 2 o-rings. Local dealer says they reuse the insulator. Can it be reused?

TIA

YO

I don't know how to answer your question; however, I noticed you are in Central Ohio. I live in Ashland and work in Mansfield. Where are you at?

The insulator can usually be re used but the o-rings need to be replaced. Make shure the insulator is in good shape like not hard as a rock or anything like that.

STOP STOP STOP
you can replace the injector by just pulling the part BUT--Make sure you get all the fuel out of the cylinder if any goes in--when you pull the injector--all the Fuel will DUMP into the intake and if your valves are open-it will go into the cylinder--when you turn the key-----BOOOOM. (you can't compress a liquid)
You'll hydo your piston and bend or bust your piston rod. how do I know--I did it myself and had to rebuild. if you remove the injector--remove the sparkplug for the cyilinder that the injector works for--make sure you get ALL the fuel out of the cylinder before you turn your key...

If you remove the whole rail then when you pull the injector the fuel will not be able to go into the cylinder, hense the recomendation to remove the rail by your other source. I say take out your spark plugs and just make sure the cylinders are dry before you turn your key but don't remove the rail. Any other questions..just call me at my dealership.......Ask for Jason in the parts department @ 1-800-342-7045
