Followup on this, I just ran a mode II diagnostic on the car, it's setting a code 45, "Injector Leak" according to the FSM. obviously refers to a fuel injector problem, I'm wondering if an in the tank cleaner might help, probably not... ;-( If anyone has any input with this new info, I'd appreciate it.
do not use a fuel system/injector cleaner with an SR20...it will ruin the injectors...if you have done this, then this could be the problem. Reinstall the injectors and check the O-rings and check the wire harness.
Thanks for the reply, I saw that TSB. No, the injectors have never been cleaned, though I see there are a number of places where you can send them for ultrasonic cleaning, once removed. Trouble is, the code 45 can result from any rich condition (fuel pump pressure trouble, MAF trouble, etc) so I'm not sure right now if it is a bad injector. Also odd is that the FSM says code 45 only exists for CA cars, & I bought mine (new) in Ohio! Not that it couln't have been a CA car shifted here between dealers for some reason or other. Anyway, if anyone has any experience with this code 45 business please let me know.
I ran rich when I had a grimy throttle body and bad cap and rotor. I failed e-check when I wasn't burning fuel...If you are running rich, pull your O2 sensor and see if there is a coating on it. Also, which plugs did you change too? I changed to BKR6s and they ran better than PFB11s...I hope one of these ideas helps.
I've heard the injectors don't respond to cleaning well. I'd buy a fuel rail with injectors from someone parting out an engine. It'd be cheaper and easier.
