Transmission problems?

(I have a 1998 200sx SE-R, automatic.)

Ok,

I think I've got to get my transmission checked out... everytime when the car's cold, and I put it into reverse, it idles half a point (usually from 1,000 rpm to 1,500 rpm)... so bad that the car is literally jerking back and forth, like I'm slamming on the brakes, then slamming the gas, very rapidly. When I hold the brakes down (but still in reverse) the needle keeps on jumping till I put it back in park.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think it could be the transmission?

Ok, this is an old thread, but never got any responses so I'm going to try again

Same problems as the first post but this morning I noticed something new when it happened. My dash lights were going on and off. So this is what happens:

I sat in the car for about 5 minutes to try and warm it up first thing in the morning, put the car into drive and a couple seconds later I see the rpm needle jumping from 500 rpm which escalated from to approx 1,500. As my car was bucking and I watched the dash, and noticed (since it was still pretty dark out) that the lights on my dash started fading on and off in time with the needling jumping until the car shut off all together (or stalling). (and yes this is an auto).... The car does this in reverse, neutral,a nd drive. Stops when I put it into park....

I was thinking it may be a problem in the ECU, but that was checked when I did the tranny inspection b4 (about 3 months ago). So, I bring this up again wondering if the light flickering my propose any other posibilites. With the lights dimming and such, could this be an electrical prob? Alternator?

I'm getting closer to going to Nissan (avoiding having to pay high fees).... Considering this happens only in cold weather and when the engine is cold, it'll be getting a lot worse. Right now it happens once every couple weeks, but then It's been a warm summer.

I'd appreciate any thoughts Thanks.

Which ECU did they check, the engine computer or the tranny computer?

Something I just thought of, check your fuel pressure. I had a bad pump on my truck once, and it drove like a bucking bronco. It would come and go as well.

Idle Air Control motor is what i would check. It may not pull a code when it goes bad.Have a Nissan dealer put it on a CONSULT scanner and check everything out.More expensive than the independant shops, but more thorough in what it checks.

I just went down to Nissan, and I'm going to bring the car in next week. Dude said it sounds like the allternator, but they'll have to check it out.

And it was the tranny ECU that they checked.
