Question Power Steering line, relocate, help.

I'm curious... I want to shorten, or relocate my power steering line (the one up near the shock tower with the pressure switch on it)...

First, WHY is this line all the way up there next to the shock tower like that?, does it need to be up this high?

Can I make up another pipe that goes from the pump directly to the rack (with the pressure switch tapped in if required), without having to have this ugly long pwr steer line going up there?

The lead that goes to the resevoir is fine, but I want to ditch/change this other line.

Thanks...

Is there anyone on this forum with any technical knowledge on the power steering, or related items?? at all?

The reason Im posting on this forum is all the others are full of ricers that only care about their bodykits.

I don't see why not it's just a matter of finding the right fittings. Try www.anplumbing.com they sell earls braided s/s line just for P/S and should have all the fittings too. Good luck.

Oh and by the way your steering rack is on the wrong side

Re: Power Steering line, relocate, help.

I think the hose was designed that length on purpose. Keep in mind that the high pressure side of a power steering system can be as much as 1500PSI. The hose was probably made this length to avoid stress caused by sharp bends. This could cause the hose to fail prematurely and squirt juice all over the place! I would refrain from shortening this high pressure line...

Hrmm, okay, that makes sense, like its that length for a reason.

How about I re-make the line, but snake it down near the rack...

Basically I dont want the line where it is at the moment, its horrible and is a big detraction from the rest of the engine bay.

Thanks!

lets play "dig up the old thread".

I had a line remade, shorter. there's a pressure spring device inside the standard line, not all, but most of that device was fitted into my newly made pwr st line. It's considerably shorter (about 50cm total), required some trick fitting's including a welded up custom fitting. I've had no problems with the power steering yet. all good

power steering

Can someone tell me where I can get both new power steering hoses, and a new boot for where it connects.... i dont know much about cars, but I noticed the boot was ripped and the the juice went straight down and out, and I've been driving w/o power steering for about a month, I hope that isn't long enough to burn out my power steering motar? Someone please help... It's too young to die
