SR20VE What? I'm outta the loop!

What is this "VE" motor I'm reading about now? What's the big deal about it? I sold my SE-R last spring and I've been out of the loop for a long time. I'm up to date on the DET, but what's the comotion about this VE motor?

It's all in the VVL baby. NA power, no turbo needed!
And that extra 50 hp doesn't hurt either.

Basically in a nut shell where the sr20ve (or NEO vvl) engine differs from the sr20de, is that the sr20ve has whats called variable valve timing, this allows more power at a different range or rpms, so basically it has better horsepower/torque, plus its more of an even power.

the way that camshafts work is totally optimized by this engine. It's the same as vtec with 2 low rpm cam lobes per cylinder and a central lobe more lift and duration for higher rpm breathing.

I heard the Neo uses special solenoids hold the intake cams open longer and certain rpms.

Head over to NissanPerformanceMag.com for the full scoop.

The solenoids activate an oil squirt and a rod that passes through the cams and engages/locks on the bigger cam lobe for higher rpm. The solenoid is activated by a certain voltage from a certain RPM and then goes to work. Instead of a traditional intake cam that has 2 lobes per cylinder, the VVL cams have 3 lobes.

The "VE" stand for the variable timing(nissan's version of VTEC)
I'm not quite sure but I think they put that engine in the newer G20. I heard it's good for 180hp at the crank.

SR20VE=

SR - Engine Family
20 - 2.0l
V - VVL (Varialble Valve Lift)
E - Electronic Fuel Injection

I think this engine type started production in the mid-90s and was put into cars such as the Nissan Lucino VZ-R (B14).
