new guy..MAF question

hi guys... i've been reading the forum for a while and figured i should sign up... i was wondering if there was any difference between the sr20de MAF and the det MAF (would it be benificial to toss on a det MAF.. there on ebay pretty cheap sometimes) Also i know some guys use q45 or mustang cobra MAFs... are they compatable... what degree of modification would be neccesary? Thanks alot

To run other MAF's would require your computer to be programmed to run them, and the only place that does that is JWT for $500 a pop. You'd have to wire in the connector to connect the MAF, and unless you're boosting, there's really not a lot of gain for the $ using a different MAF. I think $tillen still sells bored MAF's for some ungodly amount like $350 or some such nonsense and I know of very few people running bored MAF's, which tells me that they're not worth the $$$. Cobra and Z32 MAF's are the most popular for turbo applications, and again, require computer reprogramming to work. When I go turbo I'll run a Z32 MAF because I'll burn my car before I put a blue oval product in it.

The Cobra MAF is made by Hitachi, which is the same company that makes Nissan MAFs...I hate ford as much as the next guy, but the Cobra MAF may work better/as well as a Z32 unit.

I hate ford in general as well, but its hard to say that the late model Cobra R's (or even the 05' GT's) aren't good cars. Little off topic, but hey, you brought it up.

yea.. its hard to agrue with the new cobra... only american cars that can compete are the viper and the vette z06 and thats at a $10,000 ($30,000 for the viper)premium... and ford has a new refrigerant based intercooler in the works to keep the supercharger from getting tired too quick......

Well, since SVT built it, it can't be that bad because it was built for a purpose, I'd take a Z06 or a Viper over a Cobra....on a side note, a Z06 slid and caused me to have an agricultural excursion the other day, I hope SE-R owners aren't assholes like Vette owners seem to be...and back to the topic, I think the Cobra MAF is better for higher horsepower because it's bigger. I think it tops out at a higher hp than the Z32 MAF. Not that the Z32 MAF is weak.

Stock MAF is good to about 250 horsepower where it runs out of VOLTAGE, not air flow.

There is nothing to gain by running any other MAF on an N/A SR20.
