I had replaced my vent control valve 2 years ago. last week I got the code again along with a knock sensor code. I have 2 Nissans and whenever I get a evap code I also get the knock sensor code also. The vent control valve was working but one of the hoses was stuffed up with a moth nest. After clearing out the nest and blowing out the remaining hoses with a can of air I reset the light and it has stayed off.
The vent control valve is on top of the Gas Tank underneath the back seat. Well at least it is for my 02 Altima. I believe it is the same for the Sentra. You will have to drop the gas tank in order to get to it. If you want to bring it down make sure the tank is not full or else it will be very heavy to take it down. Once you drop the gas tank the valve will be in a sleeve next to the frame underneath the seat. I hope it this helps.
My 02 Nissan Altima wants to turn off in the morning after I haven't drivin it for hours. The check engine light did come on. After I press the gas it goes back to normal. Its been like this for months. After doing some research I believe its the EVAP control valve. I took it to the mechanic 4 times and he replaced my spark plugs, O2 sensors EVAP Canister, and air sensor and it still keeps doing it. Then the mechanic said it might be the computer. I do not believe him he cost me a lot of money he had me like this 4 times. I need someone to confirm this or help me answer this question. Is it the EVAP control valve or computer or is it something else?
You need to obtain the specific code that is turning on the ses light.
Local Auto Zones due it for free. Just replacing parts can be costly
Here are the symptoms the check engine light is on codes P0302 and P0507. Car burns more oil than normal and uses antifreeze much to fast. First start in the morning sounds like the car wants to turn off until i press gas then evrything sounds good. The spark plugs, air sensor, oxygen sensor and EVAP canister have been changed but not the control valve.
Can anyone please tell me how to disconnect the electrical part of the vent control valve? It was like a plastic connector tightly connected to the metal part, I tried everything, even nearly destroyed the plastic part, but still failed to disconnect it.

I believe you have to pry up on a small clip. If you have a digital camera, take a photo and blow it up on your computer to get a closer look.
Saw your thread, mine is a 2006 sentra. the first time (A couple of years ago) the service engine light came on it was my gas cap not scewed on right. this time (last week)i disconnected the battery for a minute. it was ok not for long.....Without a portable diagnostic machine, I'll try cleanning out the valve on the cannister. Is there any USUAL service engine soon culprits that us nissan sentra's should know ? Thank`s in advance. anyone hve a picture of what the canister looks like ?

Post 32 has a good diagram of the vent valve and canister. Local Auto Zones will usually give you a read out for free. If you go to Auto Zone's web site you will find a lot of info when you input your vehicle info..
