In my opinion I do not think the pulleys will cause bolts to come loose unless you never torqued them correctly.

bolts can come loose even if properly torqued and rod and main bearings can wear out, and crankshafts can break if things are not balanced correctly. maybe the hybrid nissan guys would deal with trading an underdrive pulley for a lighter crank. a few people on this forum have valuable knowledge...one of them is andreas. that guy always seems to be thinking twice before he says something once.

Speaking of lighter parts... Word around the campfire here in Memphis is that Eagle is planning on making SR20 cranks =)

Lighter and stronger!

Crankshaft girdles are not for crankshaft vibration damping, they're for crankcase stiffening against torsional stresses.

The SR20 crankshaft IS internally balanced with a total of four counterweights. The harmonic balancer on the crankshaft pulley is to help dampen 2nd order and higher harmonics of the primary crankshaft frequency.

You might face reduced bearing life for the front and rear beaings, same with seals, but that's not guaranteed. There also might be a tendency for some fasteners attached to the crankshaft and clutch assembly to loosen...but that's not guaranteed either.

Race engines don't normally use harmonic dampeners but they don't expect 100k+ miles out of the engine before overhaul.

Just like everything else, you pays your money and takes yer chances.
