my 93 2000 nx is producing alot of
valve noise, one mech. says valve job
one says timming chain.
any thoughts? should i get new engine
or have the expensive repair?

Hard to say. Most likely its a worn chain tensioner.

How many miles are on it? Have you considered doing the work your self if it needs a timing chain set? Teach you alot to/.

Replacing a tensioner is about as easy as changing your oil, someone once said. Mine's in the mail so I'll let you know. If your valves are still noisy after a tensioner, then your shims could be to blame. If it does need a timing chain set I'd think about doing a JDM swap, but that's just me.
