ive been told that it might work
just want some clarity
im planing to drop in a sr20de into my car for now.
i was planning to turbo it but i herd about the neo vvl.
is it just the head that makes the difference or is it the whole thing?
is it the same block?
to clarify a little bit more the ve does have a higher compression than our de blocks as well. im not sure if the head will swap though i heard something about it maybe fitting, havent ever seen a vvl in real life so i couldnts say, and something about an additional oil line having to be run. i want to look into it a little more ill keep you posted...trying to find jsut the heads may be difficult, and prolly cost around the same as a sr20 det

i know that you can get replacement heads for the neo. locating them is the hard part since only 600 sr16ve engines were made. if anyone finds out anyhting let me know. i have an extra ga16de lying around and would love to try it out

First and foremost you shoudl search SR20forum.com VE head swaps on SR's are thoroughly covered. There are a LOT more than 600 SR16 motors made, it is the SR16VE N1 that was rare. Lastly an SR16 head will NOT work on a GA16 motor. The SR components do not interchange with the GA components.

^What wes said.........Also, wes do you know what the HP different is between the normal manufactured SR16VE and the SR16VE N1? I read were there were only 200-300 N1's made.
Interesting.
Is lower compression better for turbo applications? Hence the lower ratio on DE?
And would this mean turbocharging a DE is a better route?

^Lower compression is better for boost because you can turn it up higher and not have to the head lift or a blown getting a blown head gasket. You can still boost a higher compression motor, you just have to be careful on how high you turn it up.
Each setup is different so it depends on what applications you are running before somebody can tell you what level you can turn it up to. 7lbs. is usually a stock.
