valve tick on startup

Ive got an 01 Sentra SE and when I start my car and its cold, my oil light is on for a split second until the oil pressure is up and then its fine. What causes this and what can I do to fix it? The car has about 74K miles.

Thanks!

It's pretty normal with SR20's.
You can replace your timing chain tensioner and it will help a little but it will always do that.

Thanks, I was worried that it was something bad but if its normal I'm not too worried about it.

Thanks again, and happy holidays!

There are varying degrees of normal.

If your noise seems obscenely loud, you might want to have it checked out. Usually it's just from a lack of oil pressure at startup but if it's real loud or seems to be lasting longer then would seem safe, get it looked at just to make sure nothing major is wrong.
