Need help!

Ok, i have a few problems that im not sure whats exactly wrong. First, i have a 98 200sx ser, and whenever i start it when the engine is cold it makes kind of a grinding noise but does start, i think its the starter, but someone else said it could be the flywheel teath are worn. Then whenever i hit the gas hard the lights go dim untill i let off. Thanks for any and all help!

easy i think

Again i am not a lic mechanic but i have learned a lot and i hope you get this and it works to your advantage. From what u said about what is happening is not the starter but a battery but most likely a alternator. They start to do what you said as the are winding down to death. The lightes dimming is a pretty good sign. Go to your local car parts store who does free testing and have them do a computer look up for codes. If you can take your alternator out of the car have them check that as well. It sounds like a electricall problem accuring. About the grinding when cooled might be alright i would have to hear it to know. good luck and right me back.. on progress.

check your battery and your alternator.
Replace your drive belts.
Make sure your Alternator pivot bolt hasn't fallen out because they do if they aren't real tight and you'll never be able to get your belt tight enough if it's gone.
SR20 starters will make a howling noise when they are cold. It's called starter squeal and it's VERY common. I think the Mitsubishi starters dont' do it as much but it still happens.

Take your alternator OFF and have it checked. On-car tests are not always accurate.
