Post What to do, what to do...

As far as I'm concerned, the SR20DE that's in my '01 Sentra is based off the SR20DET made famous by the S13-S15 chassis. Whether this is right or wrong let me know. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the I4 DOHC that's in it. I could turbocharge it with a Turbonetics Kit (which I think was supposed to only work with '02 and up) or I could find a way to supercharge it, or even something else.

I guess what I need help with is where to start. I have a lot of questions, but then again I'm new to this site. I really want to make my Sentra nice, but I really don't know where to start. Can anybody give me ideas as to where to go?

P.S. Putting forced induction wasn't my first idea nor was it the first thing I was going to put into my car. I was thinking all the little things before that... but therein lies the problem... what little things?

the s13, s14, and s15 are actually the rwd versions which is pretty much the same thing just a few minor differences. instead of the turbonetics kit whick can easily cost $4000, you should consider doing an sr20det swap from a pulsar, bluebird, or avenir. those are the fwd/awd versions sold elsewhere in the world. check out sr20forum.com lots of useful information there. good luck with whatever you decide on

Thanks for the post man... that helps quite a bit. Yet I was wondering why did you suggest getting an SR20DET swap from those cars you mentioned? I know that they would have the Nissan stock turbo with the engine, but I'm having trouble seeing the point if that's going to be replaced anyways with a bigger and better turbo. What I'm getting though is that it will be easier to turbocharge because it has many of the components that the S13-S15 engines have, or something like that. But nevertheless, I'll check out that site and see what I can get from it.

If anyone else wants to help that'll be awesome. I need all the information I can get!!

yeah the reason i suggested those motors is because you'd already have most of the stuff you need. even if you want something bigger than a t28, all you'd need is the larger turbo, probably a new manifold, larger injectors, fuel pump. its really all a matter of taste. if you have an 01 SE, im pretty sure you have the RR sr20. the stock DETs are all highports. the RR is still quite capable of a decent amount of boost, but most people seem to go with the highports

i have a turboed 01 SE. it's capable of plenty of power using the stock rr motor. once it blows up, get some pistons and rods and you'll be set. there isn't really a turbo kit available for the SE, you basically have to piece together your own kit. the turbonetics kit for the spec will not fit, completely different engine/piping/etc

Okay...

So what about engine swaps? Is is possible for me to put in a 240SX's SR20DET into my Sentra? Sorry in advance if this is stupid, but I'm really curious. Also, if it turns out that there aren't many options for the '01 Sentra, then I'll have no other choice but to look at a different setup or a different car altogether. Afterall, I'm running on a 3-Speed automatic.

the s13-15 are all set up for rwd. they will not work in a sentra, unless you wanted to spend a shitload of money making the engine bay longer, custom motormounts probably, shit like that. if you want to do a swap, look for either: pulsar, avenir, or bluebird motors. they should be DETs. the pulsar gti-r has a t28 turbo, individual throttle bodies, about 230hp. the bluebird has a t25 and around 205-210hp. the avenir also has a t25 but i believe either the w11 or w12 (can't remember which) has a ball-bearing t25, also around 210hp i think. if you want something a bit more rare, you can look for a sr20ve, basically nissan's verison of the vtec. there's a couple different VEs but the easiest one to find is the sr20ve-around 190hp i think. also you said you have the automatic so i would definitely try picking up a b15 5 speed tranny, or a 6 speed if you really want to have some fun

Wow... that helps a lot. How much do you think it'll cost me to get all of that stuff you mentioned? What you mentioned seems logical, but I guess the question now is where am I going to find all of the materials? I don't even know which junkyard I should look at or something. Oh and another thing. Isnt the Pulsar, Avenir, and Bluebird all JDM cars, by that meaning they weren't sold in the U.S.? If so then I have to account for that as well. I'm also gonna go and start looking for that T28 turbo that's from the Pulsar GTI-R (If I'm not mistaken, that's the top of the line for Pulsars right?), and really what I want to find most is that six-speed tranny you mentioned. I can take care of installing all of the parts, but the only thing I need to know is a rough estimate of how much this is going to all cost. Sounds to me about 5 grand for all the parts (if I'm lucky) and another couple of gs or so to get it all in (Because I've got to admit, I can't install ALL of the parts.

Thank you Dark Eagle and B15chik. This is really helping me!

hey no problem man. here's a couple of places that sell jdm engines
jspecauto.com
tigerjapanese.com
jdmracingmotors.com
there's a bunch more too so just google "jdm motors" or "jdm engines" and search around for a good price. also, keep in mind that if you want to save money, you don't need the 6speed. your b15 5speed can handle a pretty good amount of hp. also, to do the 6speed swap its gonna cost you about 500-600 ontop of the tranny and alot of custom work. but if you want to do it, go for it
