You couldn't have said it better.
A friend of mine bought an SR20DET motor that came out of a silvia. He discovered this the hard way cause he intended fitting it in his Pulsar SSS. They may look the same, but, there are small noticeable differences.
Where the oil filter is situated; The direction in which the intake manifold on the RWD engine faces compared to the FWD version.(The turbo manifold won't fit, cause it faces the wrong direction)
Location of pumps and hoses etc.
Also the gearboxes are not interchangeable.(We tried!)
However, the gearbox from the AWD & FWD are quite similar except for the fact that the AWD has and extra driveshaft.
Phew!!
