With the JDM SR20 you MUST switch out the temp sensor on the head, use your old one if you have one. If you don't, you need to get one.
Should you decide not to switch these out, your temp guage will show hot. I just got off the phone with Courtesy, while ordering various relay switches and the question came up.

Thanks for the Kudos, I have been scratching my head for the past 4 days. It is not my daily driver any more. Company ride , so I don't get to tinker any more, just drive my stabbin wagon and ponder.

what if swapping the us temp sensor doesn't work either. my guage is still reading like its overheating, but it hasn't yet. i can't figure it out. any help? i've been through every bit of info on the archives, no luck. oh yeah, and i bought a new temp sender (2 wire) and it was blue. i've only seen red on EVERY other nissan. is this a bad sign? did the parts guy give me the wrong sender? help is appreciated! thanks, ~Mike
The 2 wire sensor is for the ECU. The 1 wire sensor is for the gage.

In the white SE-R when the AMG benz did the ricer fly by on 408 :)
Well, for what its worth, I used the sender that came with my JDM engine. I was aware that they may be different, but when looking at both, they had the same part number, and looked identical, so I used the JDM one. Gauge does not say my car is running hot.
yeah i know about the 1 vs 2 wire. my question is are the se-r guages and non-se-r guages (temp) operating on different resistance? maybe if i plop an se-r temp guage in there it will be fine? i'm just trying to figure out what the hell is going on?
Sorry, it took so long to get back. I thought nobody cared.
I went and pulled the old sensor and replaced the jdm sensor with the us sensor (duh) and it worked, my gauge is stable.
Courtesy says that it send C instead of F, but I don't see how it can. I think it is resitance or has a different setup intenally to read lower, so that the computer reads a lower temp. If you put 140 degrees on a graph, for F it's nothing, for C you're on mars during lunch.
I did not mess with the 2 prong. I only pulled the single wired sensor.
Hope it helps.
I have had to work out bugs the size of elephant crap, but she runs great now. I have yet to run it, ordered mods and waiting anxiously waiting. Never ending waiting..........still waiting.
