Yet another person with a weirdo noise.

OK......so, this summer I decided to get my belts replaced (I worked at an auto parts store and got a discount on some Gates belts), but I made a poor choice as to where I got them installed.

So, within a month, I start getting loud belt squeek, and take it to the Nissan dealer, who put in different new belts, and tell me that there were 2 missing bolts and the rest were loose.

Then, another 2 months down the road, I start getting a weird groaning/humming noise at idle and low rpm (the noise is quiet, but noticeable in the cabin with the stereo off)......

.....I think nothing of it, but 2 weeks ago, I'm messing around at 2am on a country road at 125mph, and my lights go dim, and my battery and brake (no idea why) idiot lights come on. Turns out I snapped an altenator bolt.

Ok...I get this replaced (half the bolt was broke off in there, so I had a mechanic deal with it), but now the humming/groaning noise is worse. The noise IS coming from the area of the belts, but I'll be dammed if I know what the hell it is. Should I try tightening/loosening the altenator (it's the tensioner on it's belt right?), or just go somewhere and say "fix it"?

Any thoughts?

your battery and brake light came on to tell you your alternator was going out. As to the noise, I dont know. Try to figure out exactly where its coming from.

you know what, u might want to get your cams checked out. the reason why i say this is cause my car is doing the same thing. i have replaced the belts and the water pump. the noise stoped for a couple of hours and it started again. then i took off the valve cover and i noticed that one of my cams looked like it was not being lubricated properly cause it has alot of metal particles and one end of the cam was metal against metal. now i have to get the cylinder head replaced due to all the metal shavings. what sucks is that my car is a 99 sentra se-l and it only has 28,000 miles. well i hope that this helps out a little.
