wierd noise coming from the engine

hey there folks. i have problem with my sentra. there is a squeking, rattling noise that is coming from the top left corner (when u are in front of the car) of the engine. it makes the noise when it is at idle speed or when i come to a stop and it stops when i start to move or when i rev the engine. if any one knows of this problem please help. if this helps i was working on my car today and i noticed that my o2 sensor was not connected propely. also my car is a 99 sentra se-l and it has 28,000 miles. thanks

warranty? 28k, I would take it to the dealer and get them to fix whatever it is for free.

When you properly reconnected the O2 sensor did that fix it, just asking, seen weirder fixes happen.

well the only problem about the warranty is that the car has a salvage title and i bought from a mom & pop dealer. and when i reconnected the sensor it did not fix the problem.

we dont have timing belts. we have timing chains.

check your PS belt and Serpentine belt. adjust if needed. try a little belt dressing on them to see it if does anything. dont use a lot though.

my bad, but a common problem with sr20's, albeit earlier ones, was a bad timing CHAIN Tensioner

Squelling noise, tighten your accessory belts a bit. One tensioner can be found on the P/S mount facing the firewall and obscured by P/S lines.
The other is on the Alternator bracket itself.

If it is your CHAIN tensioner, that is located under the oil filter and is a pain to remove. I believe you can find out how to check it here on the post. If not buy a HAYNES manuel, that is how I found mine and believe there is a check section in there somewhere. Good luck.
